Welcome to the website of the U.E.M.S. Section of Medical Microbiology
The Section of Medical Microbiology was founded at a meeting of the UEMS Council held in Brussels on 19 April 2008 on the initiative of Prof. John E. Degener. Twenty-one delegates from 16 European countries attended the first Meeting of this new Section in Brussels on 27 September 2008. The Section now includes 23 full-member countries (Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Croatia, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, Belgium, France, UK), 2 associate-member country (Turkey and Serbia) and 1 observer country (Macedonia).
The main purposes of the UEMS are the harmonisation and improvement of the quality of medical specialists training, qualifications and practice in the European Union.

The next general meeting
The General-Meeting 2023 of the U.E.M.S. Section of Medical Microbiology will be held on 14th April 2023 (Time: 1 pm - 5 pm), on the day before the opening of the 33rd ECCMID, in Copenhagen , Denamark.
